Today we're kicking off our weeklong journey into the Word of God with Psalm 19. So find a quiet spot, grab your Bible, or just click on the link to read this chapter.I love this Psalm... it's one of my favorites. The picture to the left will help it come alive. In fact, as you're reading the first few verses, you can check out this picture and others here.
God's work is truly beyond our comprehension! I can't even fathom how far away these stars must be!
So what do you see in this chapter? Or more specifically:
1) What does David say about the "heavens?"
2) What does he say about the law (and the statutes, precepts, commands, etc.) of God?
3) What does he then say in response?
When I read this, it seems like he shifts his "awe" from the sky to the fact that God has shown him truth through his commands.
Then, in response to all of that, he's humbled in his own heart by the wisdom and majesty of God. I love verse 14:
"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer."
I know my words can be harsh, and what goes on in my heart can be even harsher. So, today, for me, I need to carry this verse around with me. What about you?
And what if tonight, we all take a moment to look up in the sky and get a "live shot" of the heavens declaring God's glory!
By the way, here's a very cool song based on Psalm 19 called Declare Your Glory, written by our very own John Green.
